Who is the Ideal Candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction is an option for many patients when stubborn fat deposits cannot be reduced despite regular exercise and a balanced diet. The goal is targeted body contouring and a more harmonious silhouette.

Common reasons for liposuction include:

  • Permanent removal of localized fat deposits

  • Improvement of body contours

  • Balancing of body proportions

  • Support after significant weight loss

  • Increased physical well-being and self-confidence

Liposuction is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic surgical procedures for both women and men and is individually tailored to the respective body areas.

Commonly treated areas include:

  • Abdomen

  • Hips

  • Thighs

  • Lower legs

  • Upper arms

  • Chin

  • The procedure is performed under sedation or general anesthesia.

  • Depending on the extent of the treatment and individual needs, the procedure may be carried out on a day-clinic basis. Upon the patient’s request or if medically indicated, an overnight hospital stay is also possible.

  • The duration of the procedure depends on the number of treated areas and the extent of the fat deposits. As a general guideline, the surgery takes approximately one hour per body area.

  • Immediately after liposuction, a custom-fitted compression garment is applied to the treated areas to optimally support the healing process.

  • Wear the compression garment for 4 – 6 weeks, 24 hours a day

  • Avoid sports and strenuous physical activity for 4 – 6 weeks

  • Avoid sauna and solarium for 6 – 8 weeks

  • To support skin regeneration, it is recommended to apply oil or body lotion to the treated area several times daily

  • In rare cases, liposuction may be associated with bleeding, bruising, or infection.

  • Mild, temporary pain or increased sensitivity to touch is normal and usually resolves within the first few weeks.

Does fat return after liposuction?

No. One of the key benefits of liposuction is that the removed fat cells do not regenerate. The likelihood of significant fat accumulation returning in the treated areas is low, provided that body weight remains relatively stable.

How does liposuction work?

During liposuction, only very small skin incisions of approximately 4–10 millimeters are made. Through these access points, the fat tissue is gently loosened and removed using specialized suction cannulas, either standard or vibrating. Thanks to anesthesia, patients usually experience little to no pain during the procedure.

Who is a suitable candidate for liposuction?

Liposuction is suitable for women and men with localized fat deposits, a stable body weight, and good overall health. It is not a weight-loss method, but a procedure aimed at body contouring.

When will the final result be visible?

Initial improvements become visible once swelling subsides. The final result gradually develops over the course of several months as the healing process progresses.

Are the results permanent?

The removed fat cells do not grow back. With a stable body weight and a healthy lifestyle, the results are generally long-lasting.
