The only requirement for a rhinoplasty is that the patient is of legal age, i.e., has reached the age of 18. In very rare exceptional cases, nose operations are also performed earlier. However, these are usually medically necessary surgeries that are not carried out for aesthetic reasons.

Types of Nasal Corrections

When to Consider Rhinoplastic Surgery

Rhinoplasties are carried out for the following reasons:

  • Unsightly appearance (aesthetic reasons)

  • Genetic malformations (congenital aesthetic reasons)

  • Disruption of nasal functions

  • Injuries and trauma (restorative rhinoplasty)

  • Revision/Correction of previous nose job results

  • Preliminary medical assessment carried out by the patient’s GP or internal specialist

  • Detailed face to face consultation in our practice

  • In the week before and the week after your procedure, you must cease taking anticoagulant medication such as Aspirin, Thomapyrin and Thrombo Ass

  • Nicotin and alcohol consumption should also be limited in the week before the procedure

  • Rhinoplasties are performed at the Privatklinik Hochrum, under general anaesthesia, including an inpatient overnight stay

  • The procedure normally takes approx. 2 – 3 hours

  • Depending on the shape of the nose, excess bone and cartilage is removed (e.g., in a hump nose), deviated nasal parts are straightened (e.g., in the case of a deviated nose) or the nose contour is refined (e.g., in the case of a drooping nose tip)

  • At the end of the procedure, plasters and a nose splint are applied

  • We recommend resting the head in an elevated position whenever this is possible

  • Avoid sporting activities and do not blow your nose for 6 weeks

  • Suture removal after 10 – 14 days by Dr. Romed Meirer

  • Nose splint removal after 10 – 14 days

The following side effects and complications can arise within the first 14 days after nose surgery:

  • (severe) swelling of the face

  • bruising

  • palpable bone margins

These side effects can occur in any kind of surgery and usually disappear within the mentioned time. Scars are also produced in the course of nose surgery but they are usually only visible for a short time.

  • Does health insurance cover the costs of a rhinoplasty?

    There is a chance of receiving at least part of your costs from your health insurance if a medical indication such as traumatic deformation or respiratory impairment is evident.
