Botox (Botulinum Toxin)

"Botox®" is actually a protected brand name, but is often used as a synonym for a whole range of cosmetic products containing botulinum toxin (BTX). It's a naturally occurring bacterial protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum that relaxes the muscle.

What can Botox treat?

We use Botox both for the treatment of neurological diseases and in aesthetic medicine:

  • frown lines (wrinkles around the root of the nose)

  • forehead wrinkles (horizontal forehead lines)

  • drooping eyebrows (eyebrow lift/brow lift)

  • crow's feet (adjacent to eyes)

  • marionette lines (wrinkles below the corners of the mouth)

  • hyperhidrosis (excessive sweat production)

  • chronic migraines

  • bruxism (teeth grinding)

  • muscle cramps in the face, neck, ankles, wrists and shoulders

Do not use during pregnancy and breastfeeding!

  • The injection points for the treatment are determined in the course of a detailed consultation. A few small injections are then made with very fine needles, which patients generally find painless.

  • The muscle relaxant ensures short-term relaxation of the muscles in the affected areas. This in turn leads to a significant reduction in wrinkles. From then on, your face will appear firmer, younger and more dynamic.

  • You will be "socially acceptable" right after the treatment. However, you should refrain from sport and strenuous physical activity for a few hours.

  • How does BTX work?

Botulinum toxin blocks specific nerve impulses in the muscle which relaxes it. This only affects muscle contraction. Other nerve impulses, such as feeling or touch, are not affected. After a therapeutic injection, the effect builds up slowly and reaches its peak after around 10 - 14 days.

  • How does botulinum toxin work against migraines?

Botox can also be used as part of migraine therapy - and is officially authorised for this purpose. The doctor injects botulinum toxin at specific points to relax the muscle and noticeably reduces migraine symptoms.

  • How does Botox work against heavy sweating?

Botox can also help with hyperhidrosis, i.e. particularly heavy sweating. For this, we use botulinum toxin A, which inhibits the release of acetylcholine from the nerve cells. This way the activity of sweat glands can be noticeably reduced for approx. 6 months.
