  • Prior to the scheduled procedure, we recommend an internal medicine preoperative examination performed by your general practitioner or a specialist in internal medicine.

  • Please discontinue blood-thinning medications such as Aspirin®, Thomapyrin®, or Thrombo ASS® at least one week before surgery and for one week after the procedure—always in consultation with your treating physician.

  • In addition, we kindly ask you to reduce nicotine and alcohol consumption before and after the operation, as this supports proper wound healing and helps optimize surgical results.

  • The procedure is performed under general anesthesia or conscious sedation and usually includes one overnight stay for optimal postoperative care.

  • The operating time for a facelift is approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on the treated areas and the surgical technique used.

  • Based on the patient’s wishes and the facial areas to be rejuvenated, the most appropriate surgical method is selected. Available options include minimally invasive forehead lifts, mini lifts, scar-reducing MACS lifts, midface lifts, classic SMAS face and neck lifts, as well as fat grafting using the patient’s own fat.

  • At the end of the facelift procedure, a custom-fitted facial dressing (compressive garment) is applied and is usually removed after 1 – 2 days.

  • Cold packs and keeping the head in an elevated position are effective in reducing postoperative swelling.

  • Lymphatic drainage treatments can further support and accelerate the healing process.

  • Sutures are removed after approximately 7 – 14 days.

  • The overall recovery period is around 2 weeks, depending on individual healing.

  • Sports and strenuous physical activity may be resumed after about 4 weeks.

  • During the postoperative period, Aspirin® or other anticoagulant medications must be avoided.

  • To promote optimal healing and achieve the best possible result, it is strongly recommended to completely refrain from alcohol and nicotine consumption during the first 4 weeks after surgery.

  • During the first 14 days following a facelift, the face may be significantly swollen, show bruising-related discoloration, and feel temporarily numb or altered in sensation. These effects are generally part of the normal healing process and gradually subside.

  • In very rare cases — particularly among heavy smokers — circulatory disturbances, impaired wound healing, wound infections, or unfavorable scarring may occur.

  • A partial change in motor facial function has also been reported in very rare cases; however, this usually resolves spontaneously over time.

Who is a suitable candidate for a facelift?

A facelift is suitable for women and men who experience visible signs of skin aging, such as wrinkles, sagging cheeks, or loose skin in the face and neck area, and for whom non-surgical treatments no longer provide sufficient results.

How is a facelift performed?

A facelift procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia or sedation. The skin and underlying tissues are tightened and repositioned. Incisions are placed as discreetly as possible along natural hairlines and skin contours.

Will there be visible scars after a facelift?

Scarring cannot be completely avoided; however, incisions are strategically positioned to be as inconspicuous as possible. Over time, scars typically fade significantly.

Is a facelift painful?

After a facial lift, swelling, a feeling of tightness, or mild pain may occur. These symptoms are generally temporary and can be well managed.

How long is the recovery time after a facelift?

Most patients are socially presentable again after approximately 2 – 3 weeks. Sports and strenuous physical activity should be avoided for 4 – 6 weeks.

When will the final results be visible?

Initial improvements become visible as swelling subsides. The final results of a facelift develop gradually over several months.

How long do the results of a facelift last?

While a facelift cannot stop the natural aging process, the results are long-lasting and provide a sustainably rejuvenated appearance.
