  • The procedure in our practice is usually performed under local anaesthetic. General anaesthesia is also possible on personal request. However, this is rarely used due to the extent of the treatment.

  • Even before the anaesthetic is administered, Dr Meirer marks the later course of the threads on the face. This allows you to visualise the effect of the threads in advance. The areas to be treated are then carefully disinfected.

  • During the procedure, polydioxanone threads are placed under the skin or muscle tissue, where they are then left in the desired layer of skin. There, the threads stimulate collagen formation by activating growth cells and thus lift slightly sagging tissue.

  • possible restrictions in facial expressions for up to 24 hours after the lift

  • we recommend avoiding physical strain and sport for around 1 week

  • after approx. 6 weeks there is a further positive effect due to increased collagen formation

In general, PDO threads do not cause any kind of side effects. In rare cases, skin reactions caused by the injection may occur, such as

  • mild pain and swelling

  • a feeling of tension and pressure

  • haematomas

  • itching

  • What does a thread lift involve?

In the course of a thread lift, wafer-thin threads made of PDO (polydioxanone) are placed under the skin in the desired areas using a thin needle. These threads stimulate collagen formation by stimulating growth cells and thus lift sagging tissue discreetly and gently. The threads dissolve within 6 months of the treatment. It is therefore not necessary to remove the threads. The lifting effect lasts for up to 24 months.

  • Are there alternatives to a thread lift?

Yes, there are various lifting methods in plastic surgery. These include Botox treatment, injections with hyaluronic acid, a mini-lift or a facelift. You can find information on these procedures by clicking on the relevant links.
